The Russian State Duma is considering imposing hefty fines for insulting teachers

The initiative was proposed by Deputy Yana Lantratova, who serves as the Deputy Chair of the Duma’s Committee on Education.

Lantratova has sent her proposal to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. She believes that individuals who insult a teacher during their duties should be fined between 5,000 and 20,000 rubles. For legal entities, the fine could range from 200,000 to 500,000 rubles.

Additionally, the deputy proposed fines for insulting teachers during public speeches, in the media, or online. In such cases, individuals could face fines ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 rubles, officials from 100,000 to 200,000 rubles, and legal entities from 500,000 to 700,000 rubles.

Lantratova believes these measures will create a mechanism to prevent damage to the honor and dignity of teachers, thereby providing them with protection and enhancing their status in Russian society.

The deputy emphasized that the new administrative penalties should be applied only after a thorough investigation of each case. Insulting a teacher must be proven, and fines should not be used as a tool to pressure participants in the educational process.
