Sergey Kravtsov, the head of the Ministry of Education and Science, announced during an extended meeting of the Public Chamber that he does not object to introducing grades for behavior in schools. However, he emphasized the need to develop criteria for evaluating students’ behavior.

He also highlighted several unanswered questions, such as who would assign these grades: individual teachers or the entire school’s pedagogical staff. Additionally, it remains unclear what consequences grades for behavior would have for students.

The initiative to introduce behavior grades was put forward by employees of the Institute for the Study of Childhood, Family, and Upbringing. In May 2024, they proposed that the Ministry of Education and Science thoroughly consider this issue and open it for professional and public discussion.

However, family, adolescent, and child psychologist Larisa Konovalova finds the initiative rather unusual. In her opinion, it will not bring about any meaningful changes or improvements. On the contrary, introducing behavior grades may further hinder students’ development by promoting infantilism.

Earlier, Minister Sergey Kravtsov assessed the Unified State Exam (EGE) in 2024, stating that the exam was conducted smoothly without any significant disruptions or leaks of exam materials.
