A group of Russian scientists has explored the uncharted currents of the Atlantic Ocean. During the expedition, which lasted about three months on the research vessel “Academician Mstislav Keldysh,” scientists conducted hydrological measurements for the first time in the Vidal Deep, northwest of the Vema Fracture Zone. Such measurements had not been carried out in this area before.

The researchers measured temperature, salinity, flow velocity, and analyzed the concentration of oxygen and alkalinity. These data will contribute to a better understanding of processes occurring at great depths and assess the state and variability of the ocean over decades. The results obtained will be valuable for predicting climate change.
