The first group of Russian tourists has set out for the Masikryong ski resort in North Korea — 97 individuals from various regions of the country embarked on a journey from Vladivostok to North Korea. The group also includes tour operators and representatives of the media.

Tourists will visit Pyongyang and then proceed to the ski resort. The trip will last four days and three nights.

The cost of the tour was $750, covering visa fees, flights, accommodation in hotels, breakfasts, and excursions. However, the cost of ski passes and personal expenses are not included.

According to the tour operator “Vostok Intour,” there is currently a significant number of people wishing to travel to North Korea, so a waiting list has to be formed. According to Irina Mukhina, the general director of the tourist company, the receiving party thoroughly prepared for hosting tourists, as the arrival of a large tourist group from abroad is a crucial moment for North Korea.

“A trip to North Korea will undoubtedly provide guests with a unique experience, as the country remains one of the most closed and isolated in the world — this is one of the reasons for its tourist attractiveness. Visiting North Korea requires strict adherence to rules; tourists must follow the instructions of their guides. However, it is worth noting that most negative stereotypes about the country are myths,” said Daria Zernova, a travel manager, to GORUS.

In recent years, the country has actively invested in the tourism industry, building new facilities and developing infrastructure. Guides are often fluent in Russian, so there are usually no language barrier issues in hotels, restaurants, and cafes.

Currently, the only places accessible to tourists are the beach at the “Mazon” resort and the “Masikryong” ski resort with 11 ski slopes (9 for experienced skiers and 2 for beginners), according to Daria Zernova.

When traveling to North Korea, it is advisable to observe several rules. For example, it is not recommended to bring items, technology, and any objects of American production. Moreover, one should avoid contacting local residents without their initiative. Political topics should not be raised in conversations, and the country should not be referred to as North Korea. It is forbidden to approach monuments of political leaders in casual attire, laugh, or show disrespect. Photographing citizens without their consent and any objects related to the defense sphere, as well as military personnel, is not allowed.

“If you approach the organization of recreation wisely, study local rules, and comply with the guide’s requirements, then a vacation in North Korea will provide unforgettable impressions. Traveling around the country, encountering difficulties is extremely challenging because tourists are constantly accompanied by local guides, and routes are planned in advance,” concluded Daria Zernova.
