Anthocyanin pigments in strawberries, which give them their rich red color, help reduce inflammation, improve heart function, and protect cells from free radicals. However, not everyone should consume this fruit, dietitian Alexandra Razarenova warned on Sputnik radio.

According to her, strawberries are rich in vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that strengthens the immune system, helps fight infections, and improves iron absorption. They also contain vitamins K, E, B6, magnesium, potassium, manganese, and folic acid.

Razarenova cautioned that strawberries are not suitable for everyone: they are contraindicated for individuals with allergies and gastrointestinal disorders. People with kidney problems should consume strawberries carefully due to the high content of oxalates — salts and esters of oxalic acid. Despite the low glycemic index of strawberries, diabetics should monitor their intake. This also applies to healthy individuals, who should consider their own body’s specific needs.

It is advised not to eat more than 150 grams of strawberries per day. If you enjoy adding this fruit to smoothies, salads, or desserts, it is important to monitor the amount of sugar you add, concluded the dietitian.
