A safer method for aluminum recycling has been created
Experts from Russia and China have developed a new method for processing waste resulting from aluminum production. Because of it, aluminum industry businesses can effectively and environmentally safe, dispose of one of the main types of production waste.
Cathode carbon – the most adverse one of the main waste products of aluminum production, that is obtained as a result of the electrolytic method. This carbon being the coating of the electrolysis baths, accumulates dangerous compounds such as fluorine, cyanide and other toxic impurities, becoming harmful to the environment.
The proposed method makes it possible to remove these dangerous additives and convert waste cathode carbon into pure carbon suitable for use in electrochemistry and electrode production.
Materials scientists from Russia and China have created a technique that can recycle hazardous carbon waste and use it to produce clean carbon, suitable for the electrodes production for lithium-ion batteries and other energy sources. The method makes it possible to obtain recuperated carbon with a 94.63% purity.
