A new bill has been introduced in the State Duma that could provide economic benefits to responsible pet owners if passed.

The essence of the proposal is to introduce a new social tax deduction for personal income tax (PIT) for expenses related to preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic measures for registered pets.

The list of deductible expenses also includes the cost of purchasing medicines for pets.

The explanatory note emphasizes that owners of cats, dogs, parrots, and other pets will be able to claim the deduction by providing the tax authority with documents confirming the actual expenses.

Veterinarians support this initiative. Lawmakers argue that their proposal will encourage pet registration in Russia.

The authors of the bill hope that the amendments will come into force on January 1, 2025.
