To maintain a horizontal position while swimming, it is crucial to keep the face in the water. Failing to do so can lead to serious neck issues, warned Elena Antipova, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Sports Disciplines at the State University of Education, in an interview with the newspaper Izvestia.

Antipova explained that tilting the head back causes compression of the cervical vertebrae. This results in uneven body load and muscle strain, particularly in the neck and shoulder areas.

She noted that this mistake can lead to headaches, muscle pain, and joint discomfort. Antipova recommended learning the correct swimming technique under the guidance of a coach. Otherwise, swimming in a pool or bathing in a natural body of water may cause more harm than benefit.

During swimming, the face should be kept in the water to ensure the body remains horizontal. Breathing should be done to the side, concluded the expert.
