Drinking instant coffee too frequently can be detrimental as it is made from lower-quality raw materials compared to ground coffee beans. This affects the flavor and health benefits of the beverage, cautioned Irina Lyulina, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the State University of Education, in an interview with “Rossiyskaya Gazeta.”

Lyulina explained that coffee beans contain theobromine. Caffeine is primarily found in the outer skin of the bean, while theobromine is located deeper inside. Instant coffee often uses the remnants of coffee beans, with the caffeine portion being extracted by pharmaceutical companies or sports nutrition manufacturers.

She noted that this is why instant coffee is less stimulating and can cause dehydration by expelling water from the body. Lyulina recommended drinking a glass of water after each cup of coffee.

Additionally, some types of instant coffee may contain trans fats formed during the sublimation drying process. The drink can also contain acids and other harmful substances, such as chlorogenic acid, which may irritate the stomach lining and increase acidity.

Moderate consumption of instant coffee (1-2 cups per day) is generally not harmful for most people. However, those with specific medical conditions or diseases should consult a doctor before consuming this beverage, the expert concluded.
