Socially significant goods will be delivered
The inaugural unmanned ferry in Russia, named “General Chernyakhovsky,” has commenced operations, servicing the route between Saint Petersburg and Kaliningrad. This autonomous marine vessel set sail on December 19th as part of the international forum, “Digital Transportation.”
At the “Neva-2023” exhibition this September, Nikolai Pozhidaev, President of Sitronics Group, announced the integration of autonomous control systems on the ferries “Marshal Rokossovsky” and “General Chernyakhovsky” plying between Kaliningrad and Saint Petersburg. Both ferries measure approximately 200 meters in length, equivalent to two football fields.
Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Andrey Belousov, emphasized that the ferry’s launch on this route isn’t a trial run but marks the commencement of the vessel’s full-fledged commercial operation. The vessel will transport socially significant cargo to the Kaliningrad region.
