In March this year, the real wages of Russians, accounting for inflation, increased by 12.9% compared to the same period in 2023, according to a report by Rosstat on the socio-economic situation in Russia.

Compared to February, real wages in the country rose by 11.4%. In February, wage growth was 10.8%, and in January, it was 8.5%. The average salary in Russia in March 2024 was 87,740 rubles, which is 21.6% higher than in March 2023.

Rosstat also provided data on wages across major economic sectors. The highest average monthly salary was in the oil and gas extraction industry, amounting to 324,133 rubles, while the lowest was in the hospitality and catering sector, at 47,938 rubles.

The average pension received by Russians in April 2024 was 20,941 rubles, which is 7.8% higher than in April 2023.

The unemployment rate among the population aged 15 and older in April 2024 was 2.6%. The previous record was set in March, when unemployment fell to 2.7%.

In the first quarter of 2024, the wealthiest citizens accounted for 29.4% of total monetary expenditures (compared to 29.3% in the first quarter of 2023). The least affluent compatriots spent 2.1% (the same figure as the previous year).

The average salary for 2023 increased by 7.8%, following a 0.3% increase in 2022. In April 2024, the Ministry of Economic Development raised its forecast for average wage growth to 6.5% for the current year, 3.6% for 2025, and 2.8% for 2026.
