Theobromine, found in cocoa beans, offers numerous health benefits for humans. Specifically, it helps prevent obesity, kidney stone formation, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Researchers from Zhengzhou University (China) analyzed studies conducted on this substance and noted its potential for use in functional food products.

It was found that theobromine contributes to neuron protection, improves motor memory and cognitive brain functions. It also aids in preventing brain damage and protects against strokes. Considering its low toxicity and minimal side effects, theobromine could be an effective agent for preventing brain diseases.

Additionally, this substance positively affects the immune system and possesses anti-inflammatory effects.

Research has shown that theobromine can stimulate fat breakdown and activate thermogenesis in brown fat cells, leading to weight loss and improved metabolism.

However, scientists cautioned that most of the studies they reviewed were conducted at the cellular and animal levels. Further clinical research will be needed to draw definitive conclusions about the effects of theobromine on the human body.
