American scientists have examined articles and reports published by colleagues in various publications and created with the help of artificial intelligence.
The results of the study were published by The Register. They concluded that scientists are increasingly using AI capabilities.
Such articles have their own characteristics. The scientists conducting the research did not fully disclose their methodology. Nevertheless, they identified the main sign of articles written by artificial intelligence. They contain many adjectives. AI most often uses words such as “commendable,” “innovative,” and “comprehensive.” The researchers noted that the text of conference papers could have been significantly altered if AI had used large language models.
The authors of the study also noted that scientists more often turned to artificial intelligence for help when they needed to submit a research paper within short deadlines (up to 3 days).
According to the researchers, scientists should ensure transparency in their use of AI.
