Research has confirmed the assumption that mosquitoes prefer certain individuals. They make up about 20%. Such individuals typically react more severely to mosquito bites. Their skin reddens and becomes unbearably itchy.
Scientists have found that mosquitoes especially love to bite people with certain blood groups, said dermatologist Alexandra Fileva, an expert at the “Hemotest” laboratory, in a conversation with “Izvestia”. For example, tiger mosquitoes prefer to bite people with the first positive blood group. Previously, they inhabited exclusively in Asian countries. However, in recent years, tiger mosquitoes have been found in Europe and Russia. The most dangerous malaria mosquitoes choose people with the fourth blood group as their victims. Such mosquitoes exist in Russia, but their bites do not lead to malaria.
In addition to blood group, mosquitoes are interested in human breath. They target people who breathe frequently. This is easily explained. Mosquitoes can sense the carbon dioxide exhaled by humans from a distance of 15 meters. Therefore, the more a person breathes, the more attractive they are to mosquitoes. For this reason, runs in the forest will always be accompanied by mosquitoes.
Another at-risk group is pregnant women. This is because their body temperature is approximately 0.7 degrees higher. Additionally, pregnant women exhale more carbon dioxide.
Mosquito bites are not dangerous to humans. However, they cause quite unpleasant sensations afterward. It is recommended to apply ice or use special creams immediately after a bite, which quickly relieve itching and redness.
