A group of American scientists from the Yale School of Medicine conducted a study that helped understand that pregnancy can accelerate aging, but in the postpartum period, women undergo changes and a reverse process begins, leading to rejuvenation. The corresponding scientific study was published in the journal Cell Metabolism.
Researchers conducted an experiment involving 119 women of different ages. The women provided blood samples for DNA analysis during early, middle, and late stages of pregnancy. Then, the scientists asked them to repeat this procedure three months after giving birth.
It was found that between the early and late stages of pregnancy, the biological age indicators of women increased by 2.5 years, but three months after childbirth, a reverse process began.
In some women, researchers found a decrease in biological age immediately by 8 years. Of course, pregnancy increases biological age, but in the postpartum period, there is a recovery, meaning that mothers begin to rejuvenate.
The authors of the study also noticed a similar effect in women who exclusively breastfed.
