For the first time in Tatarstan, doctors at the Republican Clinical Hospital (RCH) have performed autotransplantation of bone marrow, transplanting patients with their own stem cells, who suffer from malignant blood diseases. The first two patients are feeling well and preparing for discharge.

In the initial phase of this procedure, moderate chemotherapy is administered to destroy unhealthy cells. Subsequently, the body is stimulated to actively produce new stem cells. When their quantity reaches 5 million per 1 kilogram of weight, doctors collect the patient’s own stem cells and freeze them.

The patient is then allowed to return home. After 4-5 weeks, they are invited back to the hospital, where chemotherapy is administered again. Over the next few days, the person is kept in sterile conditions, followed by surgical transplantation.

After this procedure, the patient’s body restores a full volume of healthy bone marrow cells within a few days.
