The Sobolev Institute of Mathematics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in Novosibirsk has launched the “Sergei Godunov” computing system.

This supercomputer is designed to create mathematical models for various critical processes, such as epidemiological, ecological, economic, and social ones. According to the government of the Novosibirsk region, the development of such a system became possible thanks to funding from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia and the federal project “Development of Infrastructure for Scientific Research and Training Personnel” of the national project “Science and Universities.”

The institute has announced plans to modernize and double the system’s performance this year. This will enable faster and more efficient crisis forecasting.
