In St. Petersburg, there has been a noticeable rise in demand for specialists in the IT sector. Employers are now willing to hire even those with little to no experience.
These entry-level IT specialists are being offered significantly higher salaries. While companies previously paid beginner IT professionals 25,000 rubles per month, they are now willing to pay 100,000 rubles.
The top five most in-demand positions in this field include programmer/developer, technical support specialist, project manager, designer, and analyst. According to the job service hh.ru, these professions account for about 70% of all IT vacancies in St. Petersburg.
A study conducted earlier by the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE) showed that the IT sector in Russia has been showing robust growth since 2019. Its contribution to the Russian GDP now stands at nearly 2%. The average annual growth rate of the gross value added of this economic sector from 2019 to 2023 reached 10%. By this measure, the IT sector ranks first among other sectors of the Russian economy. However, analysts caution that the growth of the IT sector could halt at any time.
