In 2023, St. Petersburg set a record for the number of residents undergoing medical checkups. This achievement has placed the Northern Capital at the top among Russian cities.

A total of 3.7 million St. Petersburg residents, or 61% of the city’s population, underwent medical checkups, including health screenings and examinations. Governor Alexander Beglov shared this information during a broadcast on Channel 78. He noted that nearly 200,000 residents discovered health issues during their checkups, enabling timely treatment.

Beglov also highlighted that, in recent years, spending from the city budget on healthcare development in St. Petersburg has doubled. An additional 49 billion rubles were allocated for the creation of new medical centers. Over the past four years, the city has seen the establishment of six modular hospitals and 52 new clinics.

Significant attention has been given to the major renovation of existing medical facilities. Funding for these renovations has tripled over five years. In 2018, spending amounted to 1.339 billion rubles, while in 2023, it reached 4.098 billion rubles, according to Beglov.

It was also announced that the St. Petersburg government has decided not to increase tariffs for municipal services starting July 1, 2024, and will also address the issue of fees for kindergartens.
