The police in St. Petersburg conducted a raid across the city and in the Vsevolozhsky District of the Leningrad Region, resulting in the seizure of over 2,000 electric scooters. The large-scale operation led to the initiation of more than 200 administrative cases.

According to a statement from the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the raid highlighted the lack of order in the e-scooter sharing sector. In June, there were 87 incidents in St. Petersburg involving personal mobility devices, with the majority of the e-scooters provided by sharing companies. All accidents resulted in injuries.

The authorities reported that such raids have been regularly conducted by the St. Petersburg police since the beginning of the e-scooter season. Throughout this period, nearly 11,000 personal mobility devices (PMDs) have been seized, and 1,200 administrative cases have been filed.

The seized e-scooters are stored in special temporary storage facilities. Experts will examine their technical condition and suitability for safe use.

In May 2024, additional regulations concerning PMDs came into effect in St. Petersburg. These included speed restrictions near metro stations and along embankments, as well as an expanded list of areas where e-scooters cannot be left.
