During his annual report to the State Duma, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin outlined the primary measures aimed at tackling poverty and inequality in Russia.

According to him, improving the welfare of Russians is at the forefront of the government’s agenda. In 2023, pensions and benefits were indexed, leading to a 15% increase in insurance pensions. The minimum wage also rose by more than 18%, a significant development for millions of compatriots.

Special attention is devoted by the authorities to the remuneration of public sector workers, including teachers, healthcare professionals, and social workers. Mishustin clarified that last year’s decrees by Russian President Vladimir Putin on raising salaries affected over 5 million individuals.

He added that the government is actively combating poverty through the modernization of employment services, the creation of new jobs, and support for entrepreneurship. For instance, the social contracts program has already increased the incomes of 700 thousand Russians.

All these measures serve as the foundation for systematic efforts to address poverty and inequality in Russia, concluded the head of the cabinet.
