Experts warn that summer in 2024 may set a new temperature record. The hottest weather is observed when the El Niño effect reaches its maximum.

The previous El Niño occurred in 2023. Its influence will end in mid-2024, said expert Andrey Kiselev in an interview with RBK. The following year is likely to be cooler. He also noted that the increase in temperature is usually accompanied by a rise in the global sea level. Low-lying areas may be flooded.

El Niño is a natural phenomenon characterized by abnormal warming of water in the central part of the Pacific Ocean. This leads to an increase in air temperature worldwide. El Niño can cause droughts, heavy rains, and floods.

Due to this natural phenomenon, 2023 turned out to be the warmest year on record. In the second half of the year, the average temperature for each month was record-breaking.
