Russian tourists have shared their favorite sweets. Specialists from the online service TuTu surveyed 3,000 users and found out what one should try when traveling around Russia.
One of the most popular options is Tatar chak-chak, a dessert made from fried dough in honey syrup, which was chosen by about 15% of respondents. According to legend, this dish was invented by a shepherd’s wife at the request of the Khan of the Volga Bulgars for his son’s wedding.
Tula gingerbread cookies ranked second, preferred by 9% of those surveyed. They have a glazed coating and a fruity filling.
Kaliningrad marzipan, made from almonds and powdered sugar, is recommended to try by almost 7% of travelers. The unique recipe involves roasting the products over an open fire.
Eastern sweets such as churchkhela and Turkish delight (rahat-lukum) are also in demand among respondents. The Kolomna pastila, the recipe of which has been restored in the Museum of Pastila located in Kolomna, is equally popular.
