The Thai government is set to resume direct flights to Russia, suspended since 2020 due to the pandemic, according to the Southeast Asia representative of the Russian tour operator Tez Tour, Andrey Snetkov.

In an interview with TASS, Snetkov noted that potential sanctions from Europe and the USA currently pose the main obstacle. However, he pointed out that most tourist nations are willing to cooperate with Russia, ignoring external influence attempts.

The reinstatement of direct flights would make Thai resorts more accessible to Russian tourists, potentially increasing travel flow and broadening the options available through tour operators.

Russian tourists continue to visit Thai resorts. From November to April, the influx was not as massive and abrupt as in the previous season but remained steady. According to Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports, over 1.1 million Russian citizens visited the country from late fall to early spring, with 760,000 tourists frequenting Thai resorts earlier this year. The tourist flow from Russia is expected to increase to 1.6 million people in the upcoming summer and autumn.
