Natural juices without added sugar can be part of a healthy diet, according to research published in The Conversation.

Scientists point out that fruits and vegetables are rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They also contain substances that, while not essential for human life, can enhance health.

Adults are recommended to consume 375 grams of vegetables and 300 grams of fruits daily. Juices can help achieve this goal and mask the taste of less favored vegetables and fruits. However, the juicing process increases the content of simple sugars, whose consumption should be limited. Therefore, it is important not to overconsume juices and to choose beverages without added sugars.

The researchers noted that 100% natural juices do not harm health. Some studies associate their consumption with improved heart health and reduced inflammation.

Claims about the harm of 100% juices are often questionable. These assertions are frequently based on surveys where respondents might mistake sweetened drinks for natural juice. Thus, the link between juice consumption and the development of cavities, obesity, diabetes, and other diseases remains unproven.

While juice can be part of a healthy diet, it is also important to include whole fruits and vegetables, the scientists concluded.
