2.5 Billion Rubles Allocated for the Restoration of Nevsky Prospect Facades

A program for the phased restoration of Nevsky Prospect facades in 2024 has been launched in St. Petersburg, with an allocation of 2.5 billion rubles. The city’s main avenue will undergo a comprehensive overhaul that will span several years.

“Today marks exactly 80 years since our main avenue regained its historical name. This year, we plan to start the comprehensive repair of facades and roofs. An additional 2.5 billion rubles from the Capital Repair Fund have been allocated for the ‘Nevsky Prospect’ program,” announced the Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov.

The name “Nevsky Prospect” was restored to the city’s main thoroughfare on January 13, 1944. Prior to that date, from 1918, the prospect was named “Prospect 25th of October.” The restoration will begin with the Old Nevsky section of the avenue, located between the Alexander Nevsky Lavra and Vosstaniya Square.

The Smolny press service reported that in the first year of the program, more than 40 facades and 30 roofs are planned to be repaired. The restoration project will involve a comprehensive approach, including the synchronization of various repair activities.

The program will be supervised by the housing committee, and the Committee for State Control, Use, and Protection of Monuments of History and Culture (KGIOP) will act as a co-executor. Considering that most buildings on Nevsky Prospect are recognized as cultural heritage objects, the restoration process requires special attention to details and the involvement of specialists for the precise restoration of artistic finishes. In total, 72 facades and 62 roofs on Nevsky Prospect are planned for restoration.
