More than 97% of Russians surveyed stated that they are aware of the BRICS association of countries. In comparison, in 2015, 85% of citizens were familiar with BRICS activities.

Konstantin Abramov, head of VTsIOM, shared this information at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). The SPIEF platform is hosting a forum titled “The Role of BRICS in Seeking a New World Order.”

Russians also expressed their views on the influence of BRICS on the global situation during the survey. In 2015, only 38% of respondents noted significant BRICS influence, whereas in 2024, the percentage of Russians giving a high rating increased to 57%.

In 2024, Russia holds the BRICS chairmanship, under the banner of strengthening multilateralism. During its chairmanship, Moscow will organize around 200 events. An upcoming meeting of foreign ministers from BRICS countries and some other states will be held in Nizhny Novgorod on June 10-11, 2024. Representatives from 20-25 countries are expected to participate.

Previously, Liu Yansong, editor-in-chief of the Chinese publication Xinhua, urged BRICS countries to resist economic coercion from the West and counteract the severance of ties during an expert forum at SPIEF. He emphasized that BRICS members should deepen cooperation by leveraging their economic strengths.
