Early voting has started in 15 regions
Residents of remote and hard-to-reach areas will be the first to cast their votes, as it is difficult for them to reach the polling stations on the main voting days.
For example, hunters, fishermen, loggers, miners, lighthouse keepers, and reserve workers will be able to participate in early elections, according to the Central Election Commission of Russia, as reported to “Izvestiya.” Among the first to vote are also members of ship crews that will be at sea from March 15 to 17.
Members of the election commissions will traditionally visit meteorological and polar stations, reindeer herding camps, and distant settlements before the main voting. They will reach these places by helicopters, snowmobiles, and even dog sleds.
In total, such areas can be identified by 37 subjects of the Russian Federation. However, this does not mean that voting has actually started in all of them on February 25; this date is a starting point. Each region decides independently when to start early voting. Regardless of the actual start date of early voting, all regions must complete it by March 14.
