Hyundai Plant in St. Petersburg Resumes Operations After a Two-Year Pause

The Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg is back in action after a two-year hiatus. Currently, the facility is undergoing equipment maintenance, and the staff is being trained in preparation for the planned production restart by mid-2024. As of now, approximately 800 people are employed at the plant.

To recap, the plant suspended its operations in March 2022 due to supply chain issues caused by international sanctions. In December 2023, plans were announced for the sale of the plant to the “Art-Finance” company.

The Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg was launched in September 2010, producing models such as Hyundai Solaris, Kia Rio, Kia Rio X-Line, and Hyundai Creta. The annual capacity of the plant exceeded 200,000 units.

The specific models to be produced at the “new” plant are currently unknown. Some media reports suggest that initially, the remaining car kits will be used to assemble Hyundai and Kia vehicles. The only difference from previously produced models is that these cars will bear the emblem of the Chinese brand.
