In 2023, Sugar Beet Production Increased by 670 Thousand Tons Compared to 2022
In 2023, Russian sugar factories reached a production volume of 6.6 million tons of sugar beet, exceeding the 2022 results by 670 thousand tons. This is the second-largest production volume in the history of the Russian sugar beet industry, following the record set in 2019.
According to the report, at the moment, 40 out of 66 sugar factories continue to process the harvested crop, while the previous year, only 29 factories were operational at the same time. The daily production of sugar beet sugar is 19 thousand tons, exceeding daily consumption by 7.4 thousand tons. It is planned that in February, beet processing will continue in 16 factories, and some of them will operate even in March.
It is expected that the total production volume of sugar beet in the first quarter of 2024 may exceed 750 thousand tons, which is twice the average figure for a similar period over the last three years.
The Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR) predicts that sugar beet production in the current season (August 2023 – July 2024) will reach nearly 6.8 million tons, which is 10.5% more than the previous season. This increase in production is associated with an expansion in the cultivated area (by 4.8%) and improved yield (by 3.7%), resulting in a higher sugar content in the beets compared to the previous year.
