Among the Russian regions, the leaders in terms of the average salary are Chukotka and the Magadan Region. Not far behind in this indicator are the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Moscow.

This is evidenced by data from Rosstat. In February 2024, residents of Chukotka earned an average salary of 162.5 thousand rubles. In the Magadan Region, it amounted to 150.4 thousand rubles. The average salary of residents of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Muscovites is 149.9 and 146.2 thousand rubles respectively.

As for professions, the highest salaries are received by Russians working in the financial and insurance sectors – 194.6 thousand rubles. The salary of employees engaged in oil and gas extraction is 192.5 thousand rubles. In third place in terms of salary levels are employees of companies in the information and communication sector – 157.2 thousand rubles.

Currently, changes are being prepared in Russia’s tax system. During its adjustment, a progressive scale of personal income tax rates will be introduced. Deputies proposed a threshold for income, below which personal income tax should remain at 13%. This threshold will be twice the average monthly nominal salary in Russia. If we rely on data on the average salary in the country in January 2024, the threshold will be an income of 150,000 rubles. This means that changes in the tax system will not affect the majority of Russians.
