The admission campaign to Russian universities begins on June 20. This year, over a million applicants are expected, with more than 620,500 state-funded places available, according to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.

Some applicants may receive preferences and exemptions from exams, writes “Parliamentary Newspaper.”

Exemption from Exams

Certain applicants may qualify for exemption from exams:

  • Winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian School Olympiad and international Olympiads.
  • Winners and prize-winners of other school Olympiads approved by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science can receive 100 points for a relevant subject if their Unified State Exam (EGE) score is no less than 75 points.
  • Winners and prize-winners of international sports competitions in sports included in the Olympic, Paralympic, and Deaflympic Games programs, who apply for sports-related specialties.

Admission to State-Funded Places After Exams

Some applicants can secure free places after passing exams within the quota (at least 10% of state-funded places):

  • Orphans and children left without parental care.
  • Children with disabilities and individuals with I and II group disabilities.
  • Disabled individuals due to military injury or illness, veterans of combat operations.

Special Quotas

These quotas also ensure admission to free places:

  • Heroes of Russia and recipients of three Orders of Courage.
  • Military personnel, participants in combat operations, and their children.
  • Children of medical workers who died from COVID-19.

State-Funded Preparatory Education

Some Russians can study for free in preparatory departments of state universities:

  • Orphans, children with disabilities, and individuals with I and II group disabilities.
  • Young people with one parent who has a I group disability.
  • Victims of radiation exposure, children of military personnel who died in the line of duty.
  • Contract servicemen and those who served under conscription.
  • Participants and veterans of combat operations.

Applicant Calendar

The applicant calendar for 2024 is as follows:

  • July 25 – Last day for document submission.
  • July 27 – Publication of competitive lists.
  • July 28 – Deadline for submitting original documents for priority enrollment.
  • July 30 – Publication of orders for enrollment, priority enrollment.
  • August 3 – Deadline for submitting original documents for general enrollment.
  • August 9 – Publication of orders for general enrollment.
