Greenhouse Vegetable Production Increased
In January, vegetable production in greenhouses in Russia increased by 11%. According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture Andrey Razin, the volumes of vegetable production in protected ground in the country are constantly growing. Thus, in January, the gross harvest in winter greenhouses reached 93.3 thousand tons, which is 11% higher than last year’s figure. The cucumber harvest amounted to 46.8 thousand tons (an increase of 7.6%), and tomatoes reached 43.8 thousand tons (a growth of 14.1%).
The growth in production is explained in part by new projects and the modernization of existing complexes. Currently, 13 greenhouse vegetable projects with a total capacity of 46.6 thousand tons are at various stages of implementation.
The Ministry actively monitors prices in the food market. The dynamics of retail prices for greenhouse vegetables are within the framework of inflation. The Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia are working together on this issue.
