Chukotka has unveiled the world’s first paleontological postage stamp featuring the hair of a whale mustache discovered in 1971 on the shores of the Chukchi Sea. The initiator of this project is Valery Sushkov.
The stamp has a highly unconventional appearance: it consists of an adhesive stamp, strands of whale mustache hair encased in resin, and an inscription in English. Its dimensions are 90×42 mm. According to Sushkov, the stamp will be released in a limited edition of 100 copies.
The initial copies will be sent to the scientific archive of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) in St. Petersburg, the RGS headquarters in Moscow, the Central Museum of Communications named after A. S. Popov, and Vladislav Kuznetsov, the head of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug.
