A spring doll exhibition opens in Yakutsk
In Yakutsk, an exhibition of author dolls titled “Doll Stories” has kicked off, created by Yakut master Kharchaana Bappagai and her students. Kharchaana Bappagai became one of the first masters in the republic to master the technique of making dolls from polymer clay. She is a self-taught artist in this craft since 2015.
The exhibition features not only the master’s works but also creations by nine of her students. The dolls are inspired by fairy tales, cinema, and northern myths. Visitors are introduced to forest creatures, a Yakut hunter, a mermaid, and other characters from books, films, and comics. Additionally, there are women in traditional costumes heading to the main Yakut holiday, Ysyakh.
Kharchaana Bappagai emphasized that each doll has its unique character and style, reflecting the individuality of the master. Some works, such as portrait dolls of her father and elder daughter, are considered family relics.
The exhibition is located on the second floor of the Smart Library and will be open for free visits throughout March.
